Nova Istra

288 NOVA ISTRA Literary, Art and Cultural Journal Zeitschrift für Literatur, Kunst und Kultur Rivista di letteratura, arte e cultura Pula, Croatia / Kroatien / Croazia, No. 3-4/2019 Summary The current issue is almost entirely on one topic – suffering – as defined, ‘read’, explained, understood, presented... by the distinguished writers, literary reviewers and theoreticians, essayists, philosophers and other experts in the humanities who gathered at the 15 th Pula Essay Days in October 2017. This respectable internatio nal meeting, year after year, questions a certain topic, selected from those which are globally important to those which are more specific, i.e. national, Croatian culture- oriented or focused on culture, literature and other arts. At Marul’s section, entitled like this to honour Marko Marulić (Marcus Marulus Spalatensis, 1550 – 1524), the great Croatian and European writer, thinker and intellectual, also Christian and humanistic, presents poems by a couple of younger authors, who took part in the 7 th annual meeting of young writers, held in Pula in May 2018. The third unit includes a more comprehensive literary review section, presenting re cent and newly released titles (fiction, poems, travelogues, essays, etc.) from the con temporary Croatian, Polish, French and Columbian literatures.
