190 NOVA ISTRA Literary, Art and Cultural Journal Zeitschrift für Literatur, Kunst und Kultur Rivista di letteratura, arte e cultura Pula, Croatia / Kroatien / Croazia, No. 4/2023 Summary Poetry written by some of the Croatian contemporary poets this time prevails in our fiction-related part. Poems chosen from Italian and Slovene literature, now in Croatian, are included in the new translations section. There is also a text about one of the greatest Croatian female writers, actually the greatest when it comes to children’s literature, who even used to be one of the serious Noble Prize candidates – Ivana Brlić Mažuranić (1874 –1938). The same section with studies and essays presents the analysis of the novel Parallel Stories by the Hungarian contemporary classic writer Péter Nádas, along with an essay about the work by the Croatian writer, political analyst and diplomat who recently passed away, Benjamin Tolić. In our section Time Challenge(s), included from time to time, we bring translated texts by the Israeli writer Ilan Sheinfeld, and also a text about him. Nihilism and the third cybernetics order are in a focus of our philosophical considerations this time. The native region section is polemical again. In the current issue it reveals a personal view of Pula and its (recent) history; one of the best today’s connoisseurs of the city in which he was born is behind the given contribution. Critical remarks refer to some of the (more)recent fiction titles (Croatian, Bohemian and Montenegrin), as well as to the ones selected from our national history of literature. Translated by R. Šamo, Pula
