Nova Istra
438 NOVA ISTRA Literary, Art and Cultural Journal Zeitschrift für Literatur, Kunst und Kultur Rivista di letteratura, arte e cultura Pula, Croatia / Kroatien / Croazia, No. 3-4/2022 Summary The introductory section is in memoriam to the dear colleagues and friends, professors and collaborators, who passed away recently: prof. dr. sc. Stjepan Vukušić and prof. Ante Toni Cukrov. The first section includes new poetry and prose pieces by Croatian authors of different generations and styles, unfortunately some of them have passed away recently. What follows is the essay section “Reality and Destiny of Literature”, in which we make a difference between reality and realism , as done in philosophy, for instance, so the given title phrase can be understood/read as reality and destiny of literature or rea- lism and destiny of literature , but other versions are also possible. The section with new translations presents prose texts selected from the Francophone Belgian literature and the Albanian literature. The bibliography of the journal for art reviews and cultural-political issues Kritika (published by Matica hrvatske in Zagreb) seems very interesting, not only to relevant experts. Its publication, like many others, was not allowed just as the activities of the given institution were not allowed (started again in 1990 when Croatia became inde- pendent) upon the failure of the pluralist national movement, the Croatian Spring, be- cause of one-party communist single-mindedness in ex-Yugoslavia. Many intellectuals, mostly students, humanists, writers and alike, were the victims then. A special section consists of two essays, one on Dante and his capital work and the other on history seen as the revived epic poem (translated from Slovene). The native region section is focused on the second part of the study“Cosmopolitan Antagonisms and Hedonisms in Pula under Austria”, and on a young man called Egidije Bulešić (1905-1929) from Pula, the priest, humanitarian and candidate for a saint. A philosophical study is on A. Artaud and his relationship with Surrealism. We also present new poetry by two young authors who were hosted, in 2020, by Pula Comprehensive School students and Pula University students in the programme designed for young writers “Kod Marula /At Marul’s”. For ten years this programme has been supported by the current journal and its publisher. Finally, the critical reviews and considerations refer to new works by Croatian writers, many of them have been recently acknowledged and recognised as truly promising due to their already published books.
