SUMMARY
The introduction is devoted to 20th anniversary of the Croatian Writers’ Association – Istrian Branch in Pula, the only organised literary association in this part of Croatia, which is also the current journal publisher. Besides, we remind our readers that Nova Istra, the journal about literary, cultural and social issues, celebrates its 15th anniversary, marked with the amount of 42 volumes and 60 issues that have been released so far.
The section on contemporary literature presents one new literary name and several much distinguished and well-established middle-aged writers.
The traditional Pula Essay Days dealt with manipulation as its central topic last year, so we present the essays on a wide range of manipulation aspects as well as the essays on essay as a genre.
The new translations section includes the first translations/recasts of the pieces signed by respectable authors belonging to different generations – American, French, Spanish, Bulgarian and Albanian ones.
‘Essays and Studies’ comprises some very interesting considerations on anarchism and sexuality, texts/poetry turned into music, and an extraordinary series of homeland poems written within the contemporary Croatian literature.
The big comic strip artist Andrija Maurović (1901-1981), often called ‘the father of the Croatian comic strip’, is presented in the interesting and comprehensive study on ‘the porous dividing line between the high and the low’ style (every term to be taken tentatively) in the work of this artist.
In their own section, our reviewers consider the recent editions covering different genres within the contemporary Croatian literature and culture in general.
