Nova Istra - Literary and Cultural Journal No. 2/2005.
The section on the contemporary Croatian literature refers to the fiction and poetry of high quality, written by authors belonging to various literary generations.
This issue also contains the new translations from the Russian, Rumanian, Italian and Slovene contemporary literatures, including the works by Viktor Jerofejev, Marin Sorescu, Ugo Betti, Paola Capriolo and Marko Kravos.
The central thematic section deals with the figure and work of versatile American artist, writer and actor, Sam Shepard. Apart from the texts about him, his bio-bibliography and the overviews of his theatrical and film achievements, we also present the translations of his long one-act play ‘Fool for Love’ (1983) and the travelling diary from Bob Dylan’s tour ‘Rolling Thunder Revue’ (1975).
Besides, there is included the study on the Croatian literature in Hungary and the essay about the tragedy of the Muslims in Srebrenica in the 1990s, caused not just by the crimes committed by the Serbs in the eastern part of Bosnia but also by the lack of interest in the so-called international community.
The reviews of the books that have been recently published in Croatia refer to the works by Marquis de Sade, Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Ilja Stogoff, René Girard, Thomas Bernhard, and some other authors.
