STJEPAN VUKUŠIĆ, born at Stinica near Senj, 1931. Graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy, Zagreb, where got his doctor’s degree in philology. Taught at the Grammar School of Krk but, since 1965, has been living in Pula, where held lectures first at the Teaching Academy and then at the Pedagogical Faculty, today the Faculty of Philosophy. Since 1984 a Full Professor of the standard Croatian language, retired today. Member of the Committee of Dialectology, Philological Section of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU).
The scientific works released so far: Nacrt hrvatske naglasne norme na osnovi zapadnog dijalekta (monograph, Pula, 1984) and Usporedbe dvaju novoštokavskih naglašavanja – stiničkog i Daničićeva (linguistic study, 1982). One of the most eminent Croatian accentologists and the first author of a couple of linguistic projects.
His literary opus ranges from the shortest lyric form (haiku and alike) to novel. Translated from Russian and Slovene. His works translated into German, Slovene, Italian and Esperanto. Almost all the most important Croatian literary and linguistic journals, magazines and collected papers published his writings. Included in anthologies, panoramas, reviews, common collections. Ex-member of the Editorial Board of Istarski mozaik, also edited and prepared some books within Istra kroz stoljeća, today a member of the Editorial Board of Jezik, journal. Member of the Croatian Writers’ Association since 1972 and a member-activist of the Central Croatian Cultural and Publishing Society (Matica hrvatska).
