FEDORA FERLUGA-PETRONIO, born in a Slavic family in Trieste, where graduated classical philology from the Faculty of Philosophy in 1972. Taught Latin and Greek at the France Prešern Slovene Grammar School, Trieste. Having attended specialist training on the Slavic philology at the universities of Ljubljana and Padua, started lecturing at the Department of Croatian language and literature at the University of Udine in 1987 (Assistant Professor). In 1995 became an Associate Professor but, since 2001, has been a Full Professor at the same department. From 2000 to 2003 the Head of the Sub-Department of the Middle and Eastern European Languages and Literatures. From 2001 to 2004 an official representative of the Director of the International Pluralism Centre (CIP) at the same university.
The following books have been released: I nomi delle armi in miceneo, 1979 (Mycenaeology); La Chiesa in Slovenia. Analisi filologico-etimologica della gerarchia ecclesiastica con particolare riguardo ai testi del Cinquecento, 1984, and Ivan Trinko, scrittore e poeta della Slavia Veneta, 1984 (Slavic philology and Slovene studies); the three international seminars on multilingualism in 18th-century Europe F.F.P. organised at the Inter-University Centre of Dubrovnik (1998, 1999, 2000) have resulted in the collected papers Plurilingvizem v Evropi 18. stoletja, 2002 (edited by F.F. Petronio); together with her colleague Vincenzo Orioles co-edited the collected papers, again on multilingual issues, Intersezioni plurilingui nella letteratura medioevale e moderna, 2004.
The books dealing with the Croatian studies that should be particularly mentioned: Fonti Greco-latine nel teatro di Junije Palmotić, 1990; Fonti italiane e slave nel teatro di Junije Palmotić, 1992; Cultura classica ed italiana nel dalmata Ante Tresić-Pavičić (1867-1949), 1992. Also prepared the anthology entitled Ante Tresić-Pavičić. Izabrane pjesme, 1995. As a result of the international meeting, organised in Udine, 1997, F.F. Petronio prepared the collected papers Introduzione alla lingua, letteratura e cultura croata, 1999. She published also the Croatian translation of her first book about Palmotić, Grčko-latinski izvori u Junija Palmotića, the book was given the international Davidias award by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Writers’ Association as the best 1999 book written by a foreign Croatian studies expert.
The University of Udine published the first complete monograph about Nikola Šop, Il mondo cosmico di Nikola Šop, 2000, in which F.F. Petronio included the entire literary opus produced by the great metaphysical Croatian poet. In 2003, the author also organised the international meeting Il poeta filosofo Nikola Šop (1904-1982) fra il ventesimo anniversario della morte ed il centenario della nascita at the same university. The papers presented at the meeting were collected and published in La poesia di Nikola Šop (1904-1982) tra filosofia e cosmologia, 2004.
F.F. Petronio has also presented Nikola Šop to the readers in Slovenia in the recently pub- lished book Pesnički svet Nikole Šopa (1904-1982) v slovenskem prostoru, 2005.
