MIROSLAV BERTOŠA (b. 1938), historian, longtime scientific adviser at the Institute of Historical and Social Sciences - the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences (HAZU), currently a Full Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pula - the University of Rijeka. The first Croatian General Consul in Trieste (1995-1998). HAZU member-associate. Starting from archival materials, mainly from the Venetian archives, engaged in multidisciplinary research into the history of Istria and the north Adriatic region in 16th-18th century. Knowledgeable about modern historiography, particularly following the trends of the French 'school of analysts' (L'Ecole des Annales). Spent some time in Italy and France improving his research potentials, took part in many scientific meetings in Croatia and abroad. Hundreds of his scientific and professional papers have been published in Croatian and foreign editions.
